Oregon is beautiful

The work is slowly starting to increase. It is very hard and time consuming we really do go from 6:15- 9:15-30sh every day ALL DAY. We are going on a hike today, apparently a trail here or somewhere in Oregon has the garden of Dden from the movie in the temple. So that's pretty cool. This week I asked someone to be baptized. It was sweet, he said yes so I committed him to Nov. 6. we will see. It is very hard for people to keep commitments. It's very hard for people to come to church and we all know that they can't be baptized if they don't come to church. It's hard because soo many people seem interested and seem so gun- ho about it. Then the next time we visit they are never home or don't answer. It is very sad.. I'm glad that we are in the Spanish area because to be frank white people are rude and it is not fun. It also really stinks when you talk to a Hispanic person or a family and have a good discussion and get your hopes up for a next visit. Then after that they avoid us. They were just being nice and didn't want to say no to begin with. It's just really hard to have people keep commitments..but the work is continuing and everything is well. I finally figured out why Portland is beautiful. It's the sky, the sun set and the clouds other than that it is green. Hopefully I can get some good pictures today during our hike. Sister Torres is going to or has sent you an email, something to do with Christmas.. oh and tell the Claybaughs thanks for the tie and mints. Tell the family that i love everyone too.

P.S. A little story: we were tracking and we knocked on this ladies door... she said "who is it" as replied "the missionaries". She said " ohh, hold on" so she opens the door.. tell us that she needs to comb her hair.. so we waited for about a min. She answered.. we had a very nice discussion. She told us her whole situation. We just talked about gospel stuff.. well anyways we she ended up telling us that we looked...legit. So we just said we are just nicely dressed teenage boys sharing a message kinda thing to her but she cut us off and said something to the effect of.. no your faces, they.. have the light. I can see Christ is in your faces... so that was pretty sweet.. it's too bad we have to refer her over to the English missionaries..dang.. It's very hard to learn Spanish because... well it's America not Mexico! It's sad that we can't have English and Spanish investigators because then we'd have a ton.

Miracles happen everyday

It's been crazy here, getting familiar with the area and all that fun stuff. This week was awesome. We had a baptism on Saturday. Maggie, she wasn't an investigator, just a ward members daughter but it was still really awesome. The ward members here are fantastic and the food is delicious. I cant tell you how i feel, because i don't know how i feel. Alma 36:24 or 24ish. that is how i feel.. and also alma 29.. I'm pretty sure those two scriptures are the ones that I'm thinking of. As far as missionary work.. all i can say is that i can honestly say that miracles happen every day. It is Great! More that great its fantastic. For example, on tue. we were tracking and came to a door.. said our little intro thing and he let is in! His name is William. When we first walked in he told us was "don't worry its legal" he was growing weed in his living room haha. I was so shocked coming from utah I have never seen anything like it. Anyway, we had a very nice lesson with him. We found out that he had never let anyone in and that he still didn't really know why he let us in besides the fact that "somethings different about you guys". He is looking for change in his life and so we talked to him and asked him what he was willing to do to become to know Christ better.. to our surprise he said that he would do ANYTHING to become better. So we talked about more stuff, it was led by the spirit and we prayed at the end. Towards the end he said that he was about to cry.. just to let you know this guy is a former gang member, drug dealer..(or possibly is one) basically he has done it all. Here he was telling us at the very end while we were walking out. "i hope that by you guys helping me that it will be worth your two years here" or something like that. BOOM... so worth everything. It's a little sad that we can't teach him more because we are Spanish speaking so we have to refer him to the English missionaries. Another really cool happened later this week, we didn't have much time to track, we had time for a couple houses. So me and elder Weyland were walking around and both looked at a house and just kinda said.. alright lets go.. It's rare to let missionaries in... they let us in! Miracle by itself.. and then the next thing I know after our discussion about prayer, I'm handing them a B.O.M asking them to pray and read about the things that we talked about. How great. We also have a soft baptismal promise from a guy named Neri. He said he would pray about it and if it was true he would be baptized..like i said before. miracles are happening everyday. HOW GREAT IS MY WORK!!
Much love,
Elder Garlock
